Deep purple hue with aromas of cigar ash, earth, subdued dark berry, sweet notes of blueberry pie.
Palate–Ample first blast of dark berries, relaxed tannins, mouth filling black berry notes well after the swallow, savory spice and a touch of rustica with a lingering finish and a slight touch of char on the very end.
Sonoma cabs tend towards value when you consider the price of Napa cabs and this reliable Benziger family winery knows their stuff. I told my wife who was needing gift ideas for me, to grab some Sonoma cabs. With the help of the local wine shop peeps she gave me three different Sonoma Cabs. This is the first of the bunch and it’s a nice choice. At the $20 price point, this would probably run you twice that or more for a Napa of the same quality. It has years ahead of it but is drinking well now so I say, raise a glass as I will with my grilled rib-eye on my charcoal-fired Weber grill!
