2007 Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne Review By Billy

Nose: lemon flower, vanilla, tropical grass
Palate: key lime, citrus, bone dry, honey
Finish: honey lime and melon, honeycomb
Overall: awesome!
This bottle was a thank-you gift from a business partner. What a delight. We were privileged to share this with friends and co-workers as well. Good Champagne is meant to be enjoyed and shared with others.  According to Wikipedia, “Cristal was first created in 1876 for Alexander II of Russia, and is viewed by many as the first prestige cuvée.[1] As the political situation in Russia at the time of his rule was unstable, the Tsar feared assassination. He ordered that champagne bottles for his Three Emperors Dinner be made clear, so that he could see the bubbles and also to prevent hiding a bomb beneath them, as could happen with a typical dark green indented bottle.” It is a blend of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, spends an average of five years sur lie (link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristal_(wine) )
